Field Trip Information

Everyone registered for the workshop, and their spouse/partner, may choose among four, full-day FIELD TRIPS, guided by camera club members who “know the territory”, sharing our own favorite photo opportunities in Eastern Washington and Northern Idaho.
(1) “Northwest Palouse” – (THIS TRIP IS FULL; PLEASE SELECT ANOTHER) Led by Phil Hull and Rodger Hartman. Barns, windmills, bridges, high vistas of the rolling loess hills, basalt cliffs & Palouse River, covering an area from Spangle, looping West, then south to Colfax, then east & north, climaxed by panoramas from Steptoe Butte. 9-10+ hours, 175 miles total loop from Spokane.
(2) “Southeast to Palouse, WA and into Idaho” – (THIS TRIP IS FULL; PLEASE SELECT ANOTHER) Leaders Otto Stevens and Tim Bailey have driven more than 1400 miles in this area, scouting the route and leading this itinerary to enthused Participants on March 29. Artistic rolling hills, untended cemetery, pioneer barns, homesteads, churches & 1-room school, with Idaho’s Rocky Mtn. foothills as backdrop. Scenic shadowed loess hills, wildflowers, from Steptoe Butte to complete our day. 13 hours, 203 miles.
(3) “Memorabilia, Mountains & Mission” – Led by Larry Berreth and Donna Hinrichsen. The past comes alive when history is revisited – a photo journey into Idaho’s North Fork of the Coeur d’Alene River area. Murray, Idaho’s weathered pioneer buildings, mining museum & home of the infamous Molly B. Damn, huge cedar snags & stumps, & oldest standing Jesuit mission in Idaho. Fern Falls, Shadow Falls & Ancient Cedar Grove are also possible if snow melts enough for access. 12+ hours, 200+ miles.
(4)“Manito in the Morning” - Led by Barbara Murray, our garden specialist. Spokane’s Horticultural gem awaits us at Sunrise! Macro moments, Mirror Pond and plant combos are just a few of the photographic subjects in this special park on Spokane’s South Hill. This early half-day Field Trip will continue to Dishman Hills Natural Area wildflowers.

Field trips will go “rain or shine, within limits of safety!” Individual participants are responsible for their transportation (encouraging car pooling) and meals. Max of 25 in any field trip. All participants will sign “Waivers of Liability” to protect SFCC, PSA, camera clubs, field trip leaders and drivers, and property owners, in case of accidental injuries.
